Oak Hill Homes For Sale

Oak Hill

Wooded and Private

The second self governing municipality of Davidson County other than the city of Nashville and Berry Hill, is Oak hill. With a population 4529 people according to the 2010 census, Oak Hill is situated between Franklin Road and Hillsboro Pike neighboring Green Hills, 12 South, and Berry Hill neighborhoods on the southern end of Davidson County.
Although the city is administered under the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, it retains its own municipal government. It is considered a wealthy suburb of Nashville. Oak Hill is also where the Tennessee governors mansion is located.
The City of Oak Hill is a hidden jewel just south of downtown Nashville. The City encompasses 8 square miles with about 1,800 homes. Its 4,700 residents are drawn to the exclusive single-family zoning and low-density housing on large, tree-filled lots.

The City has a manager/commission form of government, with an elected board of commissioners, which selects the mayor and vice mayor, and a planning commission and board of zoning appeals appointed by the mayor.

The City contracts and provides services such as street maintenance and paving, monthly chipper service, once weekly backdoor trash and recycling pickup, right-of-way maintenance, and other services at no cost to the residents of Oak Hill. Oak Hill also issues building permits and manages building code inspections. Emergency services, including fire and police, are the responsibility of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County.

The City of Oak Hill is completely residential with no commercial establishments. It is home to the Tennessee Governor’s Residence, 15 churches, and a number of schools. Within its borders is Tennessee’s largest state natural area, the 1,200-acre Radnor Lake.

Radnor Lake

Natural Preserve

Radnor Lake State Park is a 1,368-acre park and is protected as a Class II Natural Area. It is unique due to the abundance of wildlife viewing opportunities, environmental education programs, hiking opportunities and its location in an urban area. The park is day-use only and the 7.75-miles of trail are strictly used for hiking, photography and wildlife observation. Pets, jogging, and bicycles are only allowed on the Otter Creek Road trail. The Lake Trail is accessible to people with all-terrain wheelchairs.

The park is perfect for nature enthusiasts to observe owls, herons, and waterfowl as well as many species of amphibians, reptiles, and mammals such as mink and otter. Hundreds of species of wildflowers, mosses, fungi, ferns, and other plants, as well as trees, shrubs, and vines, add to the natural ecological diversity of the area. Several ranger-led programs are planned throughout the year including canoe floats, wildflower walks, astronomy night hikes, nature hikes, programs on snakes, off-trail land acquisition hikes and birds of prey.
